Come join us along with award winning quilter, Andrea Tsang Jackson, best know as @3rdstoryworkshop, July 12th thru 14th for 3 days/2 nights at picturesque Shawnigan Lake School located in Shawnigan Lake, BC on Vancouver Island. While staying at Shawnigan Lake School you will be free to explore the campus and all of its wonder and beauty.
g location and set up our personal sewing spaces. After a quick break for lunch we will begin our first class with Andrea. Andrea will be teaching 2 classes, Sleeping Fox paper pieced mini quilt and a quilted map of Vancouver Island. Both classes, with patterns, are included in your retreat package, at no additional cost. One class being offered on Friday and the other on Saturday, with free time each day to work on personal projects. All fabrics for all classes are the responsibility of the participant.
Upon checking in, you will receive a welcome package with all of the information you will need during your 3 days stay on campus. Your package will include an itinerary of day to day activities, campus information and map. After your initial meet and greet you will be taken over to the dorm to settle in to your sleeping accommodations for the weekend. Guests selecting single occupancy with share a Jack & Jill washroom with one other guest, while double occupancy guests will share with a total of 4 people per washroom. If you are choosing the double occupancy rate you will have the option to select your quilty roommate. The dormitories feature a common area for socializing, a shared kitchen, Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities.

Not wanting to bring your machine with you? For an additional fee you can rent one, courtesy of the Fine Art Sewing Department on campus, with all proceeds being donated back into supporting the growth and development of future makers. The machine you will be sewing on is a Janome 625E machine.
Friday night you will be treated to some of the Cowichan Valley best ciders, craft beers and wines, as we listen to Laurier Martin of Trend-Tex Fabrics. Laurier is going to share with us the process from start to finish of the fabric industry and will answer any questions you may have. This social gathering is being held to let you get to know the quilters you will be spending your time with at the 3 day quilt retreat. Savor in the tastes of a selection of cheeses supplied from Hillary's Cheese, of Cowichan Bay, crackers and fresh BC fruit platters will be provided to pair nicely with your evening cocktail.
Saturday morning Andrea will host her second and final class in the morning with free time in the afternoon to discover all of what Shawnigan Lake has to discover. Take this time to wander down to the lake for a quick dip, drive into the village to pick up a coffee from the local coffee house, or if you are feeling adventurous why not travel off to Langford, Whipple Tree Junction or the town of Duncan to check out the local quilt shops and what they have to offer. The remainder of the retreat will be open time to finish up your projects with Andrea, or move onto that UFO that has been sitting in the corner waiting for you to finish.
Have you every watched the Harry Potter movies? If so, you will enjoy family style dining, Harry Potter style in Marion Hall. Here you will be served your breakfast, lunch and dinner by Head Chef James McClellan and staff. Meal times will be on a strict schedule to help accommodate other groups who maybe on campus, as well to keep to our itinerary. In addition to the catered meals you will be provided with coffee, tea and light snacks though out the day.
Maximum workshop/retreat attendees is 20-25 people. This is on a first come first serve basis.

Double Occupancy rate for the retreat is priced at $750 taxes are included for the 3 day/2 night retreat per person. A $375 deposit is required to reserve your spot, with the remainder of $375 due by May 31st, 2019. Upon receiving payment in full, you will be required to fill out a retreat registration form. This will be emailed to you once payment has been processed and confirmed.
All deposits are non-refundable. Cancellations will only be done upon an death in the immediate family. Failure to complete your remaining deposit is subject to loss of participation in the event and will be filled immediately, and no refund will be given. We will take a waiting list for those wishing to attend the event.
The retreat fee covers, food, accommodations, social gathering beverages, patterns for 2 classes. Work shop participants are also welcome to attend Andrea Tsang Jackson Trunk show at the MQG meeting Thursday, July 11th at 7 pm (Location TBA) for no additional cost.
Items that are excluded are transportation to and from the event. The single occupancy fee does not include any ferry, bus, car, or air fare. That is the responsibility of the attendee.
Workshop fabrics, thread, quilting supplies, and any alcoholic beverages that may be consumed after the social gathering on Friday, July 12th.
If transportation is required, please email us at email@example.com, we will make arrangements through the Transportation Department at the Shawnigan Lake School and for an additional cost you can shuttle to the event. There will be set times that pick ups will be done to the airport and ferry to help reduce trips.
If a sewing machine rental is needed there is an additional cost of $60 plus tax, with all proceeds being donated to the sewing program. There are limited machines available, please select the product Janome 625E if you are needing a machine rental.
