FAQ:

Do you sell Glide thread?

  • We do! We have a wide selection of spools available, and we will have empty bobbins for your use while quilting. If you need to purchase Glide for your longarm rental, you will receive 10% off your Glide purchase for the project on your rental day.

Do you sell backing and batting?

  • We do! We have a selection of 108" Widebacks and Fireside fabrics available, as well as multiple weights of batting. However, any good quality batting will be fine. If you choose to piece your own backing from quilting cotton, please ensure you have this completed before your Longarm time slot, as we do not have a regular machine available for use in the shop at this time.

What kinds of fabric can I use for backing?

  • Quality 100% cotton
  • 108" Widebacks
  • Flannel
  • Fireside
  • Minky

How big does my backing need to be?

  • You must have an extra 8" at the top and bottom, above the finished size of your quilt. If your quilt top measures 80" long, your backing must measure 96" long.
  • You must have an extra 4" minimum on each side for clearance. If your quilt top measures 60" wide, your backing must measure at least 68" wide.

Why do backings need to be bigger than the quilt tops?

  • This allows the machine enough clearance on the top and sides to do its job properly and quilt every inch of your quilt top.

Can my backing be bigger than the required size?

  • Absolutely! However, it cannot exceed 110" wide.

What is a "Square" backing and how do I achieve this?

  • Squared up means that all your sides are straight and all your corners are at right angles. We know this is tricky and not everyone has space to lay things out and trim them. If you are unable to square your own backing, we will assist you with this before loading your quilt onto the machine. Please notify us in advance if this is something you will need help with.

Should I pre-wash my backing?

  • This is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong answer. If you choose to pre-wash, ensure your backing is large enough to accommodate for shrinkage.
